Hip-hop duo Outkast has recently spent time in the studio recording new material for a forthcoming greatest hits set on LaFace/Arista, according to a spokesperson. Although full details for the album are still pending, as many as five new tracks may find their way onto the set. LaFace/Arista expects the album to be released before the end of the year.
According to the spokesperson, the hits package will introduce fans who got their first taste of Outkast via last year’s smash “Stankonia” album to the group’s earlier recordings. Prior to the success of “Stankonia” tracks such as “So Fresh, So Clean,” “Ms. Jackson,” and “B.O.B.,” Outkast unleashed such hits as “Player’s Ball” (a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart in 1994), “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” (No. 9, Hot Rap Singles), “Spottieottiedopaliscious,” and “Rosa Parks,” the latter of which remains a staple on R&B/hip-hop stations.
Outkast are on the bill for Moby’s Area: One tour, which kicks off Wednesday (July 11) in Atlanta. “Stankonia” is No. 100 on The Billboard 200 in its 35th week on the chart; “So Fresh, So Clean” is No. 81 on The Billboard Hot 100 this week.
Outkast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi have also been in the studio with Goodie Mob and the Organized Noize production team, for an album under the Dungeon Family moniker. Look for that set later this year.
