Ken Outch’s appointment as director of Sony Music Entertainment Australia’s commercial music group — effective immediately — marks his return to the company five years after he exited to join Destra Music.
Outch was director of marketing and sales at BMG from 1987 before becoming director of marketing for the Columbia imprint in 1997. He left in 2003 to become CEO of Destra Music, the recorded music arm of the digital media and entertainment company Destra Corp.
Australian broadcast and new media company Prime Media Group acquired Destra Corp. in April this year and subsequently announced it would shed Destra’s music assets. Sydney-based Destra Music was wound up in October.
In his newly-created position at Sony (formerly Sony BMG Australia), Outch is responsible for developing strategic marketing business, assisting in sales and in identifying new catalog opportunities. He reports to commercial music group GM Tony Glover.
Outch began his career in the retail section, first in 1983 for the Jetts/ Sanity chain, and was GM of the market-leading Sanity from 1999-2003.
Other changes at Sony Music Entertainment Australia see Emily Butler join as manager of online marketing, reporting to GM of marketing John Parker and senior director of marketing for Australian artists Grant Tothill. Butler was previously a marketing manager at Pacific Magazines but has experience working with Warner Music in the United Kingdom and Australia.
Also, Adriana Bakovic has been named licensing manager, reporting to GM of legal and business affairs Raani Costelloe. She has previously worked in licensing departments at EMI Music Australia and Universal Music Australia.
