Spike Lee could go home with his first Oscar for Best Director tonight, and he kicked off his big night on the red carpet by paying tribute to Prince.
The director sported an all-purple suit by Ozwald Boateng, a gold Prince symbol necklace and gold Air Jordan 3 sneakers, as well as “LOVE” and “HATE” rings similar to the iconic ones worn by Radio Raheem in Lee’s Do The Right Thing.
Lee is nominated for BlacKkKlansman, which features a recording of Prince singing “Mary Don’t You Weep” over its end credits. He posted a picture of the necklace to his Instagram, writing, “I Know In My Heart of Hearts My Brother Prince Is Watching Tonight, Singin’ ‘IT’S GONNA BE A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT'”
