Brett Anderson, former singer with Suede, one of the giants of the Brit-pop era, has gone the DIY-route and has granted an exclusive early online release for his new solo album, “Wilderness.”
The Bowers & Wilkins’ (B&W) Music Club today launched the acoustic album in a high-quality “lossless” file format, ahead of its traditional release later this year.
Speaking about his new record, Anderson says, “I made this album with the purest of intentions: to create a beautiful suite of songs untethered by second-guessing markets and playlists and music biz bullshit.”
Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, “Wilderness” is a stripped-back affair, featuring Anderson on piano and guitar accompanied with cellist Amy Langley. Emmanuelle Seigner lends guest vocals on the track “A Different Place”.
Anderson continues, “I have no record company, no publisher and a smaller audience but I have never been more confident and focused about what I am doing as an artist.”
Real World Studios recently launched the B&W download service and online community for audiophiles and music fans, in partnership with bespoke U.K. loudspeaker manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins.
The B&W Music Club offers tiered subscription packages, including a 12-album, 12-month deal for $59.95 and a six-album, six-month option for $39.95. B&W also offers free trial memberships via its Web site.
Bowers & Wilkins, established in the 1960s in Sussex, south of London, manufacturers high-end speakers both for audio enthusiasts and professional recording studios worldwide, including London’s Abbey Road. The company recently entered into a partnership with Jaguar to provide their in-car entertainment systems.
