One Direction has unveiled its new single “Live While We’re Young” and its accompanying music video on Thursday (Sept. 20). The single was originally supposed to hit radio on Sept. 24, but an unauthorized leak of the music video has given 1D fans a chance to hear it early.
Following in the footsteps of previous hit singles “What Makes You Beautiful” and “One Thing,” “Live While We’re Young” wraps its carefree chorus around a gentle guitar lick that’s vaguely reminiscent of the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” This time, however, the lyrical content is a bit more… salacious. “I know we only met/But let’s pretend it’s love… Tonight, let’s get some — and live while we’re young!” the quintet chants in the final hook.
Meanwhile, the music video, directed by Vaughan Arnell, finds Niall, Liam, Zayn, Louis and Harry palling around a campground and doing “kid” things, like swinging on a rope, playing in water-crafts on a lake and playing soccer at a nighttime jamboree. And yes, there are some shirtless shots of the boys in a kiddie pool, for those searching to swoon.
“Live While We’re Young,” which will hit digital retailers on Oct. 1, previews One Direction’s sophomore album “Take Me Home,” which will be released on Nov. 13. The disc arrives barely eight months after debut “Up All Night” hit U.S. shelves in March and started atop the Billboard 200, making One Direction the first U.K. group to debut at No. 1 with a debut album.

To celebrate the release of “Take Me Home,” One Direction will perform on the “Today” show on Nov. 13 and 14 in New York. Less than one month later, the quintet will headline Madison Square Garden on Dec. 3.
