“Om Telolet Om,” it’s not just for DJs and Indonesian kids anymore.
It’s an Indonesian phrase yelled at passing bus drivers that means “sir, honk the horn sir.” Indonesian buses have fun arpeggiated horn noises, and the phrase became a full-blown international craze after a Facebook video of the phenomenon went viral. It spread like wildfire as Indonesian social media users spam commented “om telolet om” all over high-profile accounts, notably DJs like The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Hardwell, and others.
