ole music publishing has struck a North American deal with W!LDBRAIN Entertainment for the administration of hit children’s series “Yo Gabba Gabba!”
Created by Christian Jacobs, lead singer of California’s Aquabats, and Scott Schultz, the show premiered on Nickelodeon in the United States in August 2001 and now airs on Nick Jr. in the U.S. and Treehouse TV in Canada. The series won its second consecutive Television Critics Association Award in 2010 for outstanding achievement in youth programming and was named one of the best new shows of 2007 by Time magazine.
The success of the series led to last year’s 60-date touring show, “Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE! There’s A Party in My City”; the release of seven DVDs and two albums, “Yo Gabba Gabba: Music is Awesome,” volumes 1 and 2; a book series; and clothing and accessories line.
“‘Don’t Bite Your Friends,’ ‘Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose’ and ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ are Yo Gabba Gabba! life lessons taught through song that are important messages for children of all ages,” said David Weitzman, ole’s Los Angeles-based director of business development, in a press statement. “ole is thrilled to work with such a unique, funny and heartfelt show that has touched so many lives through story, amazing characters, sets and songs. The vast array of musical talent that has performed on Yo Gabba Gabba! is unprecedented.”
Jack Black, Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood, Mos Def, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire, pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, Weezer, the Roots, Hot Hot Heat and Biz Markie have all made guest appearances.
