Before he lost his life in the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland on Dec. 3, local DJ and producer Johnny Igaz, aka Nackt, was in talks with The Nite Owl Diner label to release his first vinyl. Night System is a four-track EP, featuring collaborations with Jason Kendig and fellow Bay Area resident CM-4, and as label boss Chrissy told Resident Advisor, it “straddles the line between house and techno (with a healthy dose of acid for good measure).”
Nackt DJed the tragic Ghost Ship party and is counted among the 36 who died that night. He may not have lived to see his music take shape, and he won’t be there to benefit from the sales or praise, but his family and his friends need this release now more than ever. As Chrissy is quoted, “It’s not just another Nite Owl Diner 12-inch anymore, but a memorial to our friend. We hope we can do Nackt and his music justice.”
