Superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold will release his next artist album, “A Lively Mind,” April 11 via Maverick. Oakenfold recruited the guest vocal talents of singer/actress Brittany Murphy, the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams and old-school legend Grandmaster Flash for the set, as well as Spitfire and Bad Apples, who are signed to his Perfecto label.
In 2004, Oakenfold told Billboard he had finished the music for the new album, but was struggling to find the right male and female vocalists for certain tracks. It was with Murphy that he found satisfaction for the track “Faster Kill Pussycat.”
“I was looking for a different genre and a different feel and something just original for me,” Oakenfold says. “I knew I wanted a girl vocalist but also someone who’s not known as a singer. It had to be someone from a completely different world than mine. Brittany Murphy fit the bill.”
“A Lively Mind” is the follow-up to Oakenfold’s 2002 artist-album debut, “Bunkka,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart and has sold 275,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In addition to an upcoming tour, Oakenfold also plans to help score the music to three films, as well as remix Madonna’s “Sorry” and a track from reggae icon Burning Spear.
Here is the track list for “A Lively Mind”:
“Faster Kill Pussycat”
“Sex ‘n’ Money”
“Set It Off”
“The Way I Feel”
“Praise the Lord”
