A sea of celebrities, editors, flamboyantly-coifed bloggers and the fabulously-dressed masses streamed into the tents at Lincoln Center yesterday (Sept. 9). There was a crisp aura of excitement in the air as designers presented their Spring/Summer 2012 collections, not only because the sun finally graced us with her presence, but because New york Fashion Week was finally in full swing.

The message on the catwalks for day two was a savvy elegance, as designers moved away from the sporty look of day one in favor of a more refined and polished approach to the spring season. The sound shaking up the catwalks also reflected the aesthetic shift. Cop the sights and sounds of day two below.
Rebecca Taylor Spring 2012
VIBE: Soft, feminine and ultra delicate, Rebecca’s Spring 2012 collection cascaded down the runway with a natural grace. “The Spring 2012 muse is contemporary, fresh, and ethereal. The collection has a focus on cut and color with unexpected and surprise cut-outs in silhouettes,” Rebecca explained.
HOT ITEM: Alabaster snake leather apron top gave a fresh take on a classic look, making it a bit more flirtatious and inviting then its distant cousin.
SOUND: “Big Fun,” Inner City; “Connected,” Stereo MC’s.
The soft yet strong sound acted as a sweet accent to the fine and subtle detailing of the line.
Cynthia Rowley Spring 2012
VIBE: A gold covered runway, bondage like black leather and Lindsay Lohan blew into the tents at Lincoln center for Cynthia’s runway show. The collection came to life with bold florals, luxurious silk fabrics and exquisite leather latticework. Described as “flash mob animated sportswear,” the line took form in black tuxedo jackets with rainbow latticework, black silk tops and botanical printed pants all punctuated with chunky gold pumps. The overall collection was simultaneously sexy and elegant pulsating with a beat of savvy chic.
Ms. Lohan’s presence, as it usually does, caused so much commotion that as the lights dimmed, and the show was about to start, a photographer stepped onto the runway to snap photos of the actress, to which he was greeted with a wave of booing and was pulled off the catwalk.

Each song played shares a nonchalant beat that encouraged many to dance in their seats.
Nautica Spring 2012
VIBE: Set at the rooftop pool deck of the Empire Hotel, the boys of Nautica Spring 2012 took form in romantic, playful and preppy attire, rich in color and layering. We caught up with Creative Director Chris Cox during the show to talk music, fashion and inspiration.
“A trip along the California coast inspired this collection, he explained. “We wanted to create different decade experiences. We have an ’80s nautical vibe, a ’50s prep look and a modern surf look. For the music, we choose a sound that was relaxed but still had some soul and beat in there.”

HOT ITEM: A coral cotton trenchcoat captured all the romance and beauty of the California coast while also adding some fire to the neutral palette of the line.

The soft and playful sound encouraged daydreaming about driving along the California coast with a warm breeze blowing through one’s hair.
The ELLE Fashion Next Runway Show
The second annual ELLE Fashion Next Runway Show spotlighted a flutter of young talent hoping to take the fashion industry by storm. Dazzling new-age creations strutted down the runway in the form of oversized sweaters, edgy cocktail attire, and a gown made almost entirely of platinum blonde hair.
After the show, we caught up with Joe Zee, ELLE Creative Director, asked what he’s looking to hear on the runway this season. “Anything fun, something with a great beat. Pop music is always great.” Who in pop is Zee looking for? “Britney!” But not Gaga or Ke$ha? After frowning at the suggestion of Ke$ha, Zee seemed torn between Gaga and Britney, but did make an executive decision. “Brit-Brit all the way,” he admitted to Billboard.
