Perhaps it’s no surprise that the band Magic is off and running with its rising hit “Rude.” After all, frontman Nasri Atweh has co-written Billboard Hot 100 hits for Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Pitbull. The reggae-pop track leaps 39-28 on the Hot 100 in just its fourth week on the chart.
“Rude” bows at No. 37 on the Radio Songs chart, with 33.3 million in audience, a 27 percent gain for the week ending May 20, according to Nielsen BDS. The song is breaking at several formats, from mainstream top 40 to rhythmic.
The song sold 74,000 downloads in the week ending May 18, according to Nielsen SoundScan, vaulting 34-15 on Digital Songs. It was the top seller in Honolulu and San Diego – perhaps due to the tune’s beachy vibe.
“Rude” netted 1.9 million streams in the week ending May 18, according to BDS (up 39 percent), bowing at No. 39 on Streaming Songs. The music video has racked up 10 million views on YouTube.
