Norah Jones’ “Feels Like Home” (Blue Note/Parlophone) extends its run atop European Top 100 Albums to five weeks. Her sophomore set enjoys a 9-5 climb in Spain and continued sales supremacy in Germany, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria. In Greece, the set climbs two spots to the album chart summit.
But Jones’ domination of the pan-European album market is somewhat diluted as her 2002 debut “Come Away With Me” falls back 2-4 overall. Jones is replaced in the runner-up position by Black Eyed Peas’ “Elephunk” (A&M), which climbs 7-2. That set is up 15-10 in Spain and 11-7 in Italy, while its third single “Hey Mama” opens on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles at No. 20.
The highest new entry on Top 100 Albums is Lionel Richie’s “Just For You” at No. 8. Richie is signed to Universal Island/Def Jam but marketed internationally by Mercury. He maintains a particularly loyal following in the United Kingdom, where the album bows at No. 5. It’s Richie’s eighth solo top-10 album and third of the new century. Richie also enters the British singles chart at No. 20 with the title track to “Just For You.”
Following its multiple wins March 6 at Germany’s Echo Awards, Berlin-based pop act Wir Sind Helden’s “Die Reklamation” (Labels/EMI) album climbs 7-2 at home to spark a 27-9 jump on the composite chart.
New at No. 11 overall is “The Jukebox Years” (DMG TV) by Irish MOR favorite Daniel O’Donnell, which opens at No. 3 on the British albums chart. That’s despite the fact that O’Donnell continues to be widely shunned by the media in a market where he’s been a chart regular since 1988.
Britney Spears’ “Toxic” (Jive) holds sway over the singles Eurochart for a second week, remaining at No. 1 in Norway and Ireland. Meanwhile, Spears’ album “In the Zone” edges up 17-16 on Top 100 Albums. Breakout English R&B singer Jamelia is closing in on the singles crown, however, as “Superstar” (Parlophone) moves 3-2 overall, following a 4-3 move in France. The single also holds at No. 7 in Germany.
German vocalist Max’s “Can’t Wait Until Tonight” (Rare/Warner Music) is the Eurochart’s top new entry at No. 7. There are return visits by two Eurochart regulars: Enrique (Iglesias) bows at No. 9 with “Can’t Wait Until Tonight” (Interscope) featuring Kelis, following a No. 5 start in the United Kingdom. The U.K. arrival at No. 3 of Jennifer Lopez’s “Baby I Love You” (Epic) leads to a No. 12 debut on the aggregate chart.
