Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me” (Blue Note/Parlophone) has been awarded its seventh IFPI Platinum Europe Award in recognition of seven million pan-European shipments.
Jones’ debut 2002 set was one of 12 albums to earn a Platinum Europe Award in the first quarter of 2008, with eight of those records reaching their first million-sales milestone.
Amy Winehouse earned two platinum awards in the first three months of the year: a fifth award for her European sophomore set “Back To Black” (Universal Island) and her first IFPI Award for her debut, “Frank” (Universal Island), which has now reached more than a million sales across Europe since its release in October 2003.
Take That’s comeback “Beautiful World” (Polydor) and U2’s “The Best Of 1990-2000” (Universal Island) each attained a third IFPI Award in the first quarter. Both sets have racked up more than three million sales each across Europe.
Alicia Keys has picked up her first IFPI Platinum Europe Award for her 2007 album “As I Am” (J/Sony BMG).
The other first-time million-sellers recognized by the IFPI in the first quarter of this year are: Diana Krall’s “The Girl In The Other Room” (Verve), “The Best Of James” (Mercury), “Linkin Park Live In Texas” (Machine Shop/Warner Bros), German veteran rock act Scorpions’ “Best” (EMI), Sheryl Crow’s “The Very Best Of” (Polydor) and “La Voix d’Un Ange” (Universal) by the late French singer Gregory Lemarchal.
