RANDY PHILLIPS, 63
Last Year’s Rank: New
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR: After emerging from bankruptcy in 2016, LiveStyle, the EDM festival promoter formerly known as SFX, has gone from a $30 million annual loss to a $20 million profit in 2017. “A $50 million turnaround in one year,” says Phillips.
COMEBACK KID: Almost four years after Phillips departed his role as AEG Live CEO in an executive shake-up, he returned to the concert business last spring to take over embattled LiveStyle, hiring HARD dance promoter Gary Richards as North American president and helped revitalize festivals like Tomorrowland and Electric Zoo. “We didn’t have that crushing debt, because [founder Robert] Sillerman overpaid for everything in SFX,” he says.
