A mini-documentary about Nipsey Hussle called 10 Rings is now available on Tidal ahead of the release of his next album, Victory Lap, due Feb. 16.
The Los Angeles rapper has made a career as the complex underdog, with a cult following backing him for more than 10 years. The documentary highlights his more recent career advancements, including his record deal with Atlantic Records, which marks his first time on a major label.

Along with the documentary, Tidal has given fans the chance to score tickets to his performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Feb. 15 via a lottery on their site.
The Tidal co-sign should come as no surprise to those who have followed the rapper over the years. In 2013, Tidal boss JAY-Z bought 100 copies of Nipsey’s album Crenshaw. The backing is even more impressive knowing that Nipsey was selling the physical copies for $100 each at a pop-up in L.A., making Hov’s endorsement worth $10,000. (Over the years, most of Nipsey’s critically acclaimed work has been posted on hip-hop sites for free.)
More recently, Nipsey has become a divisive figure after making homophobic comments on Instagram on Wednesday and then subsequently backing them up on Twitter in the hours that followed. Nipsey went on to defend himself, saying the greater message was surrounding the media’s portrayal of black male youth.
Love him or hate him, Nipsey’s unapologetic attitude should make for a fascinating documentary.
