We live in strange times, plagued by luxurious escape and ever-present anxieties. Dance music services both those masks when it’s done right, and Nicole Moudaber’s remix of Moby‘s “Mere Anarchy” is one of those dynamic moments.
The original is a haunting mood composed of tense strings and unsettling synth textures over a pumping electronic beat. Moudaber grabs that pulsing threat and turns it into a warm, bassy heartbeat. She filters Moby’s poetic tale of world gripped by fear and inaction into a scrambled transmission. The nine-minute remix unfolds like a dark rose in bloom; slow and sultry, covered in shadows.
“Moby has been such an impactful force in dance music for years,” Moudaber says in an emailed statement. “Naturally, it was very invigorating to collaborate with him on this Adoption EP. With ‘Mere Anarchy’ and ‘Like A Motherless Child,’ I tried to create a moody soundscape that transports listeners into a dark and hypnotic space, but still alludes to the original vibe of the tracks.”
It’s another sexy, sinister force from the MOOD Records head. Get lost in the swirling darkness of Moudaber’s Moby remix below.
