Nicki Minaj continues her rise up the Social 50 chart, moving 5-2 after releasing a new single, “Pills and Potions,” on May 21. It matches her peak on the tally, registered on the Feb. 25, 2012 list, after she performed with Madonna on that year’s Super Bowl.
The Social 50 incorporates the following metrics: weekly additions of fans across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram; reactions and conversations across Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook; and views to an artist’s Wikipedia page, according to music analytics provider Next Big Sound.
“Pills” is the first single from Minaj’s forthcoming album, “The Pink Print,” due out later this year. The track’s official audio release caused over a half a million mentions on Twitter in the week ending May 25 (up 149 percent over the previous week). The groundswell around the album release causes a 30 percent bump in views to her Wikipedia page, as well.
Wiz Khalifa moves 31-20 on the Social 50 after performing one of the best #selfie stunts in recent history. In the early morning of May 25, Khalifa was arrested in a Texas airport for alleged marijuana possession and decided to tweet a selfie from his jail cell.
