Nicki Minaj‘s new song takes a biblical view on haters.
“They’ll never thank me for opening doors but they ain’t even thank Jesus when he died on the cross/’cause your spirit is ungrateful, bitches is so hateful,” she rhymes to open “Freedom,” the hip-hop star’s pointed new single.
The largely black-and-white video evokes religious imagery, with a cross and a stranded ark in the desert.
While the verses seem aimed at unnamed female MCs, Minaj goes softer on the sung chorus: “I feel free, I feel freedom.”

As she did at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, Minaj switches back and forth between black and white wigs, adding a crown to the ensemble in a queenly shot. She premiered the song at the fan-voted awards ceremony, where she picked up two hip-hop trophies over MCs of both sexes — making it clear who needs to start watching the throne.
“Freedom” lands today on Minaj’s three-disc “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up,” an expanded version of her hit sophomore album with eight additional tracks.
