Things are looking up. Nick Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, shared on Sunday (May 24) that the Broadway star’s condition is improving bit by bit after his battle against the coronavirus took a turn for the worse earlier in the week.
“So just a little Nick update. It’s been a tough week,” Kloots said in a series of videos posted to her Instagram stories. “Nick suffered from some new lung infection in his lungs earlier this week, and since then, he’s been slowly recovering, which is great. Day by day, hour by hour, he is getting better. He is slowly getting back to where he was before this infection came about, and that’s good.”
“We’re just hoping that he can come off some medications and that his settings on machines can come down,” she continued of the star, who has starred in Rock of Ages, Waitress and more. “Right now, we’re just looking for slow, steady, small wins to keep him resting and recovering, which is great.”
The trainer added how proud she is of her husband, who was hospitalized in early April, and has since had a leg amputated. He was placed into a medically induced coma immediately after that surgery, from which he has since woken. “I’m really proud of how strong he is, and gosh, what he’s gone through, and his will,” she said before noting the toll his battle against COVID-19 has taken on her. “I’m exhausted — physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted. It’s just been the craziest ride ever, but you know, we’re still here, and we’re still fighting.”
Before signing off, she urged her followers to not take a single day for granted, and to tell their loved ones how much they’re loved.
Just days before, on May 20, Kloots shared the scary news that her Cordero’s condition had gotten worse. “Nick has had a bad morning,” she said at the time, not sharing specifics. “Unfortunately, things are going a little downhill at the moment.”
“Please sing, please cheer, and please pray for Nick today,” she said at the time. “I know that this virus is not going to get him down. This is not how his story ends.”
Friends and fans answered her call this week. Kloots shared videos on her Instagram stories of people singing Cordero’s song “Live Your Life,” including a clip featuring Grey’s Anatomy star Teddy Raver.
“This rollercoaster has been a wild one with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but the support and energy that comes at 3pm ALWAYS puts me on a high!” Kloots wrote on Instagram Sunday of the daily afternoon performances for her husband. “Thank you for singing and dancing with me everyday! … We have had a tough week but Nick showed us yet again how strong he is and we are back on an uphill climb.”
