Nick Cave opens his broken heart on “Jesus Alone,” the first track from his new studio album with the Bad Seeds, Skeleton Tree.
The LP and its companion feature film One More Time With Feeling represent Cave’s first works of art since his 15-year old-son Arthur died tragically in a fall from a cliff in Brighton, England last year.
Cave’s pain is etched in “Jesus Alone,” a haunting work shaped within a wall of eerie sound. “Let us sit together in the dark, until the moment comes/With my voice I am calling you,” he sings.
The music video contains footage taken from Andrew Dominik’s (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly) 3D black and white movie, which will launch across more than 800 cinemas worldwide on Sept. 8.
Skeleton Tree, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album, will be released globally on vinyl, CD and across all digital platforms the following day, Sept. 9. It’s the follow-up to 2013’s Push the Sky Away, which peaked at No. 1 in the group’s native Australia, No. 3 in the U.K. and No. 29 in the U.S., the outfit’s highest-charting record on the Billboard 200.
