Newtown, Conn., will see several benefit concerts in the wake of last Friday’s shooting tragedy in early 2013 — if artists step up to the plate.
According to SoundSpike, John Voket, an editor at the Newtown Bee, is leading the effort to organize events to provide support in the aftermath of the shooting that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary. Voket, who’s worked as a music journalist for SoundSpike and LiveDaily, has connected with promoter Keith Mahler of Premier Concerts to organize the gigs.
Dates have been set in late January and early February at Webster Bank Arena in Harbor Yard. a 5,000-capacity venue.
“I wanted to do whatever I could to help fortify a community fund established to support victims and survivors, as well as to create something going forward in their memory,” Voket told SoundSpike, with Mahler adding, “I’m extremely pleased to be invited to produce an event for such a worthy cause.”
However, the shows are looking for musicians to fill the bills. Interested musicians can reach out to Premier Concerts at (203) 573-1600 or email keith@premierconcerts.com or anthony@premierconcerts.com.
100% of the proceeds will benefit the United Way’s Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
