The boy band NEWS tops the latest Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart dated Jan. 15 to 21 with their new single, “LPS,” an acronym for “Love, Peace, and Smile.” The four-member Johnny’s group sold 138,647 CDs and came in at No. 1 for physical sales and look-ups, No. 7 for Twitter mentions and No. 12 for radio airplay, jumping 90-1 on this week’s chart.
J-pop band Mr. Children’s new song, “here comes my love,” debuts at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100, after it was first aired Jan. 18 as the theme of a TV drama series and released digitally an hour after the first episode ended. The song shot to No. 1 for downloads and landed at No. 2 on the Japan Hot 100 mainly on download points with a fair amount of radio and Twitter thrown in, demonstrating the veteran four-member band’s enduring popularity.
The melodic punk band WANIMA is currently at No. 1 on Billboard Japan’s Hot Albums chart with their new release, Everybody!!, and their latest song, “Signal,” from the album rises 82-6 on the Japan Hot 100 after racking up points in radio (No. 1), downloads (No. 5) and video views (No. 11) without leaning on physical sales.
Gen Hoshino’s movie theme song “Doraemon” hasn’t even been released yet — it’s due Feb. 28 — but it bows at No. 13 on this week’s Japan Hot 100 boosted by Twitter (No. 3) and radio airplay points (No. 2) alone due to the buzz surrounding its announcement last week. It looks like the creator of the No. 1 song of 2017 has another hit on his hands.
The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups and audio streams from Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOK, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, Recochoku provided by Gfk Japan, as well as streaming counts based on lyrics displayed on PetitLyrics.
