The U.K. will soon have two new venues in Birmingham and Leicester in the Midlands.
Birmingham’s Digbeth Institute is to re-launch as the HMV Institute in September, following a major refurbishment. The main room is 1,500-capacity with a second concert space that can hold 600 people.
Veteran pop act Heaven 17 is among the first to be booked for the venue, part of the Mama Group, owned by U.K. entertainment retailer HMV.
The Academy Music Group (AMG) is to launch the 1,450-capacity O2 Academy Leicester at the University of Leicester’s Students’ Union in September. The students’ union is currently undergoing a redevelopment. It will also include O2 Academy2 Leicester (500-capacity) and O2 Academy3 Leicester (250-capacity).
AMG’s shareholders include Live Nation, SJM Concerts and Metropolis Music.
