Kevin Parker’s psychedelic rock project Tame Impala will have a new album out sometime this year, Billboard can confirm.
An update on Tame Impala’s anticipated third studio set came via an online newsletter published by the Perth-based outfit’s management firm, Spinning Top. The message noted: “Now, 2015 is going to be one helluva year. And I know this because I’m privvy to some information about some truly amazing things happening that I think you’ll all love as much as we will. There will be new albums from Pond, Tame Impala, The Growl, Gunns and Fascinator as well as tours and shows a plenty from everyone across the Spinning Top roster!”
Billboard reached out to Spinning Top to confirm the accuracy of the information. A rep says the news is “Correct. The album is still a work in progress and we have no official release date, however it will be released in 2015.”

The as-yet untitled album will be the follow-up to Tame Impala’s all-galaxy 2012 sophomore album Lonerism, which earned “album of the year” nods from NME, FasterLouder and Street Press Australia, and high rankings in year-end lists for The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Uncut, MOJO, Clash, BBC Music and Spin. Lonerism was named record of the year at the inaugural Record Store Day Adapter Prize and claimed Triple J’s J Award — meaning Tame Impala are the only artist to have won the latter honor twice (debut Innerspeaker won in 2010).
Tame Impala also cleaned up at the 2013 ARIA Awards, where the band was named best group, and won for best album and best rock album.

Following his hattrick of wins at the ARIAs, Parker revealed to Billboard that an album of new material was already taking shape. “The way I do it is there’s never recording ‘sessions.’ One finishes, the next one starts. It’s just continuous. I write songs everyday, but I don’t necessarily get to record them,” he said at the time. “I just record whenever I can, whenever I’m home, whenever I have access to something that can make music.”
Parker has kept himself busy on his many side projects, which have included Pond, Kevin Spacey and Mink Mussel Creek, and he recently dropped the single “Daffodils,” which he recorded with producer Mark Ronson, the one-time male artist of the year winner at the Brit Awards.
