The first disc of System Of A Down’s two-pronged new album, “Mezmerize,” will be released May 17 via American Recordings. It will be preceded by the single “B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs),” which will be delivered later this month to U.S. radio outlets. The second new SOAD disc, “Hypnotize,” is penciled in for a late fall release.
The two sets were produced by American head Rick Rubin and group member Daron Malakian. One track, “Cigaro,” has already garnered airplay despite not having been officially worked to U.S. radio outlets. The cut peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 34 on the Mainstream Rocks Tracks tally.
Other songs confirmed to appear on “Mezmerize/Hypnotize” include “Old School Hollywood,” “Revenga,” “Question,” “Radio Video” and “Vicinity of Obscenity.” The album artwork features paintings by Malakian’s father, Vartan.
System Of A Down will begin a 13-date European tour May 27 in Lisbon at the Super Bock Super Rock Festival.
North American shows will follow later this summer, although the band may suit up for select dates beforehand. Already confirmed is an April 24 “Souls” benefit at Los Angeles’ Universal Amphitheatre, which will aid organizations that work to eradicate genocide around the world.
