Antony Bebawi has joined EMI Music Publishing U.K. as director of legal and business affairs, effective immediately.
He reports to Guy Moot and William Booth, respectively EMI Music Publishing U.K. managing director and executive VP/general manager.
In this position he will be responsible for extending the company’s activities in exploiting and acquiring new rights.
Bebawi joins from London-based law firm Harbottle and Lewis, where he’s been working since 1998. He was a partner and joint head of the music group.
Moot stresses that Bebawi brings to EMI a wealth of experience not only in the music field but also in the new technologies area. He has advised clients in the multimedia and telecommunications fields on issues of licensing, clearance or acquisition of music rights.
“Antony is a young, dynamic music lawyer, very experienced and very smart,” said Moot in a statement. “He will bring a valuable and fresh perspective on our business at a time when technology and the changing market-place is opening up new opportunities in both existing rights and new rights for the music publishing industry.”
Said Bebawi, “I had a fantastic seven and a half years at Harbottle and Lewis but the opportunity to join the leading music publisher was just too good to turn down.”
