The September fundraising concerts Willie Nelson had planned in support of Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich have been postponed. The events will be rescheduled sometime in the fall, “closer to the start of the primaries, and allow the campaign to make better use of the concerts’ momentum,” according to a statement.
As previously reported, the first show was due to take place on the U.S. Labor Day holiday (Sept. 1) in Iowa, where the first presidential primary, the Iowa Caucus, will be held Jan. 19, 2004. A Cleveland concertwith singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco also on the bill is scheduled for Sept. 6.
Nelson, meanwhile, remains on tour and will perform tonight (Aug. 22) at the Embassy Theatre in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Among the shows on his schedule is the annual Farm Aid benefit concert Sept. 7 in Germain, Ohio.
Along with fellow Farm Aid founders John Mellencamp and Neil Young, the event will also feature performances by Dave Matthews, Vanessa Carlton, Hootie & the Blowfish, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, Los Lonely Boys, Aaron Brotherton, Titty Bingo and Billy Bob Thornton.
