Tim McGraw’s second NBC concert special will air the night before the U.S. Thanksgiving Day holiday. Footage for the hour-long Nov. 24 broadcast of “Tim McGraw: Here and Now” was captured a month ago at pair of performances in Wisconsin that included a few special guests.
Perhaps expected, country superstar Faith Hill, who is also McGraw’s spouse, made an appearance during the shows, and a duet between the couple will be included in the special. Also on tap is a performance with St. Louis-based rapper Nelly. The pair reprised their hit single “Over and Over,” from Nelly’s “Suit” (Fo’ Reel/Universal).
Their track is something of an anomaly, as it has made McGraw the first country artist to appear on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. “Over and Over” debuted there last week at No. 67; the cut is also up 8-5 on the Hot 100.
In addition to his musical guests, McGraw welcomed a true Wisconsin superstar when Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre made an on stage appearance at the Resch Center.
At the time of the taping, McGraw was touring in support of his latest Curb album, “Live Like You Were Dying.” The late August release debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums chart; it has sold 1.65 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
McGraw’s first NBC special, “Sing Me Home,” aired during the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday week in 2002, the night before Hill’s own “When the Lights Go Down” special. She drew 6.5 rating/12 share, or about 6.9 million U.S. households, according to Nielsen Media Research, while he pulled in a 6.5 rating/11 share, or 6.8 million U.S. households.
In other news, McGraw has become a minority owner of the Nashville Kats arena football franchise. He will play a concert exclusively for season ticketholders and selected sponsors on a date to be announced.
In addition, McGraw has an appearance scheduled Nov. 9 in Nashville during the Country Music Association Awards, which will be broadcast live on CBS (tape delayed on the West Coast), and four other confirmed appearances through the balance of the year. He’s set to play a Dec. 2 show in Verona, N.Y., and a Dec. 3-5 stand in Uncasville, Conn.
