Nelly and his camp seem to have gotten themselves in a bit of trouble. While driving through Texas Wednesday night (October 10), the “Hot in Herre” rapper was stopped and detained at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca after officials reportedly found a cache of drugs, including heroin.
According to TMZ, police found 36 small bags of heroin totaling .64 ounce, ten pounds of marijuana, and a loaded .45 caliber gun.
A man named Brian Keith Jones, who was among seven people detained, admitted that the drugs and gun were his and was placed under arrest. Nelly, born Cornell Haynes, and the rest of the unidentified men were released.
The St. Louis-based MC, whose hits include “Ride Wit Me” and “Country Grammar,” had performed at the Haze nightclub in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 6. He was traveling back towards the Midwest via a route along the Texas-Mexico border that has become notorious for scooping up celebrities with drugs.
Fiona Apple, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, and “Social Network” actor Armie Hammer have all been arrested at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint in the last two years. Apple, who was found with hashish while passing through on Sept. 19, spent a night in jail and was released on $10,000 bond.
Nelly is preparing to release his seventh album, “M.O.,” by the end of the year. He recently wrapped up a stint as a mentor on the CW reality show, “The Next.”
