Neil Patrick Harris didn’t attend the Tony Awards this past weekend, but he definitely had feelings to share about the show, which he has previously hosted four times. Harris took particular issue with actress Rachel Bloom, who sporadically performed comic bits backstage throughout the three-hour show, and now he’s apologizing for his Twitter comments about the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star and show runner.
It all started with this tweet from Harris:
Who is the woman in the top hat backstage at @TheTonyAwards? Gideon remarked that she says ‘like’ and ‘oh my god’ a lot. I’m confused…

Bloom responded by pointing out that she’s no stranger to Harris. In fact, her husband was a writer on Harris’ show How I Met Your Mother and she’s met the TV and Broadway star before.
I’m a big fan of yours. We’ve met numerous times and my husband, Dan Gregor, wrote for “How I Met Your Mother” for 5 years. Notably, he wrote the episode where your character finally meets his father.

Now, three days following the Twitter exchange, Harris has addressed his original statement, apologizing and saying he “should have researched her before pressing send” and “should have know[n] better.”
Sincere apologies to @Racheldoesstuff for my Tony tweet. I failed to research her before pressing ‘send’, and what I thought was a funny comment in our living room must have been far from funny to read, backstage, mid show. As a performer and a parent, I should have know better.

Similarly to Sunday, Bloom was quick to respond with kindness:
Hi, thank you for this! Apology accepted.
