NCT Dream released “Joy” on Friday (Dec. 15), the group’s first Christmas song.
The sprightly carol incorporates “Joy to the World,” “Jingle Bells” and “Roses Are Red” into its groovy melody. Twinkling bells, rhythmic guitar riffs, brassy horns and upbeat raps help build “Joy” into a revelatory holiday song, before ending on a high note with the band members harmonizing their way out of the tune.
The song is the latest music produced out of SM Entertainment’s weekly release project SM Station.
The warmly hued accompanying music video for “Joy” features the members of NCT Dream celebrating the holiday together as they participate in a variety of hobbies, ranging from painting to dueling with tulips. The K-pop stars switched up their look a bit from the more youthful style they usually don, and instead appear in dapper, holiday-party-appropriate outfits and cozy sweaters.
NCT Dream, which released their first single in 2016, is made up of the youngest members under SM Entertainment’s lofty NCT umbrella. They’ve seen success with their vibrant, funky pop sound; their EP We Young peaked at No. 3 on the World Albums chart in September.
The NCT subunit is one of several acts under SM releasing Christmas-oriented music this month: Taeyeon dropped This Christmas – Winter Is Coming earlier this week, and EXO will release their winter-themed album Universe next week.
