Two of Hip-Hop’s most influential voices, Nas and Ms. Lauryn Hill, announced their Life Is Good/Black Rage tour on Wednesday (September 19). The two MCs will start a 10-city run in late October.
“Life Is Good” is the name of Nas’s most recent album, which debuted atop the Bilboard 200 in August, while “Black Rage” will be Hill’s next single, arriving this fall. According to the tour announcement, Hill’s single addresses the “derivative effects of racial inequity and abuse” and aims to be a juxtaposition to “life is good.”
“I use the performance platform as an opportunity to express the energy of that moment, and the intention behind it,” Hill said. “I’ve been a long standing rebel against the stale, over commoditization.”
Nas, citing the long buildup for such a tour with Hill, said “Better late than never. Life is good!”
The pair performed together at the Hot 97 Summer Jam in June; in 1996 Nas featured Hill on his single “If I Ruled the World,” which peaked at No. 16 on the Hot 100.
Tickets can be purchased beginning this Friday, with a pre-sale in select markets beginning Thursday. The tour begins Oct. 29 in Dallas and travels through a small swath of the country before ending in Oakland on Nov. 19.
