Muve Music senior VP Jeff Toig and Dimple Records founder and owner Dilyn Radakovitz have joined the board of directors of both NARM, the music business trade association, and digitalmusic.org, its digital initiatives arm.
“Muve Music is one of the biggest music subscription services in the U.S., while Dimple Records is one of California’s premier independent record stores,” NARM and digitalmusic.org president Jim Donio said in a statment. “Together, they will bring an important point of view to the board that will be beneficial to all our members, digital and physical.”
The Muve Music service, which launched in early 2011, was developed and incubated within Cricket Communications/LEAP Wireless, where Toig previously served as VP of product management. “It’s a very exciting time in our company’s history, as we recently passed the 1 million subscribers mark and continue to grow,” Toig said in a statement. “We believe that Muve’s innovative new business model will be beneficial to the music industry in the years ahead, and I look forward to getting to work with my fellow board members.”
The 7-store Dimple Records chain in the Sacramento area grew out of a rack jobbing operation Radakovitz and her husband started in 1974. “Independent record stores are an extremely important part of the music business equation, and NARM understands this,” Radakovitz said in a statement. “We have worked hard to keep physical music alive in Sacramento, and I’m excited to bring the lessons I have learned to the board to help achieve that result nation-wide.”
NARM’s board of director also includes J&R Music World co-ceo Rachelle Friedman, as chairman; iTunes senior marketing manager Brent Muhle , seving as vice chairman; Amazon’s director of content acquisition Craig Pape, secretary; Immergent CEO John Trickett, treasurer; while board members include Microsoft director of music Christina Callo; Alliance Entertainment president Mike Davis; Homer’s president Mike Fratt; eMusic CEO Adam Klein; Nokia global head of entertainment business affairs & development; Jonathan Dworkin; Baker & Taylor VP of independents Steve Harkins; Spotify’s global head of marketing Steve Savoca; and consultant Len Cosimano, as director-at-large.
