Napster U.K. is ramping up its presence at bricks-and-mortar retail through a pact with Britain’s Post Office.
On the back of a similar partnership between the Roxio-owned download service and British electronic goods retailer Dixons Group, the Post Office has agreed to sell pre-paid Napster download vouchers in its 16,000 outlets.
Available in two versions, the Post Office vouchers contain a code that can be redeemed on the Napster U.K. Web site.
Green vouchers enable users access to Napster’s subscription service, allowing them to listen to unlimited titles from its catalog of approximately 1 million songs. A two-month subscription is priced at £20 ($36); a four-month subscription costs £35 ($64). The tracks time-out when the subscription expires.
Blue vouchers unlock bundles of tracks in denominations of 10, 22 and 33, priced at £10 ($18), £20 ($36) and £30 ($55), respectively. These downloads can be burned to CD or transferred to a portable player.
Napster hopes the initiative will attract Christmas gift-buyers and customers who do not own credit cards.
