Roxio will unveil its new Napster music service today (Oct. 8) at an event in New York, Billboard Bulletin reports. Details of the service, built off the old Pressplay technology platform, were not disclosed.
Sources say the new Napster will feature a mix of a la carte and subscription options-synthesizing features currently available through iTunes, Rhapsody, MusicNet and MusicMatch.
In other news, MusicMatch says it has signed licensing deals with “hundreds” of independent labels for its new pay-per-download service. Included are Beggars Group, V2, Koch, Matador, Sanctuary, TVT, Vagrant and Epitaph. MusicMatch says the deals boost its catalog to more than 500,000 tracks.
MusicMatch bowed its a la carte download store Sept. 29.
