Napster Japan today (Nov. 6) launched a mobile-based master ringtone and full-song download service in cooperation with Tokyo-based telecom operator NTT DoCoMo.
The service, called Napster Tower Reco Koshiki (Napster Tower Records Official), will be available via NTT DoCoMo’s popular i-mode mobile-based Internet access service and will feature 20,000 master ringtones and 10,000 tracks as full-song downloads for ¥315 ($2.67).
Napster Japan, the territory’s first subscription-based music download service, launched Oct. 3. The Tokyo-based company was established in October 2005 as a joint venture between Tokyo-based Tower Records Japan (TRJ) and U.S.-based Napster. In November 2005 NTT DoCoMo bought a 42% stake in TRJ.
