Indie rock act Nada Surf will hit the road in North America in October in support of its upcoming album, “The Weight Is a Gift.” As previously reported, the set is due Sept. 13 via Barsuk, while the tour will begin Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C., and run through Oct. 23 in San Diego.
Beforehand, Nada Surf has eight European performances on tap, beginning Aug. 5 at Germany’s Haldern Festival.
Produced by Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, “The Weight Is a Gift” is the follow-up to 2003’s “Let Go,” which debuted at No. 31 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart. A limited-edition first pressing will feature a bonus disc with the previously unreleased song “From the Rooftop Down,” an early version of opener “Concrete Bed,” a duet with Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Leanne Smith on “Fools” and a cover of Francoise Hardy’s “Au Fond du Reve Dore.”
Fans can sample album track “Do It Again” on the Barsuk Web site. Other highlights include peppy, acoustic-led tracks like “In the Mirror” and “Concrete Bed,” and well-produced ballads like “Comes a Time” and the strings-tinged “Your Legs Grow.”
