Several music stars received nominations for the 14th MTV Movie Awards, to be taped June 4 at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for broadcast five days later on the cable network. Mya is nominated in the new category best frightened performance for her role in “Cursed,” while Ashanti is up for breakthrough female for her turn in “Coach Carter.”
Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of late music legend Ray Charles in “Ray” earned him a best male performance nod, while the film is up for best movie. Will Smith is nominated for best male performance for his starring role in “Hitch.”
“Napoleon Dynamite” star Jon Heder earned a best musical performance nomination for his dance routine to Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat.” Other nominees in the category include Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo’s “Thriller” dance in “13 Going on 30,” John Cho and Kal Penn’s “Hold On” in “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” and the “Afternoon Delight” sing-a-long led by Will Ferrell in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”
That film and “Mean Girls” lead the nominees with four each. Jimmy Fallon will host this year’s ceremony.
