Mute records today announced the launch of Liberation Technologies, a new label focused on electronic music. The label will be headed by Patrick O’Neill and distributed worldwide by S T Holdings.
The label’s first release is ‘Spring EP’ by King Felix (aka Laurel Halo), a Brooklyn-based producer. Her “Spring EP” is slated for digital download and vinyl release on March 19.
The label, according to the release, is planning to branch out into live happenings in 2012.
Before joining Mute, O’Neill worked at Honest Jons and in A&R and with such artists as Actress, T++, Moritz Von Oswald, Joy Orbison, Darkstar and Zomby. He has also put on nights at Berlin’s famed Berghain club.
Mute founder Daniel Miller said in a statement: “Electronic music is part of Mute’s DNA and history, and this label is the latest expression of that.”
Mute rather impressive roster, which began in 1978, has included such acts as Depeche Mode, Moby, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yazoo, Goldfrapp, and Erasure. More recent signings include Yeasayer, the Liars, Apparat and S.C.U.M. Mute also handles Can and Cabaret Voltaire’s catalog.
