If you’re not registered to vote yet, now is the time to get your affairs in order to do so. But don’t just take our word for it: listen to everyone from Lady Gaga (who redirected her website to TurboVote) to Cardi B (who partnered with HeadCount), who are just a few of the hundreds of musicians, actors, politicians and celebrities who’ve partnered with HeadCount, Rock the Vote, TurboVote and many other organizations to get Americans registered to vote.
And what better time than now to register to do your civic duty and have your voice be counted, with less than one month to the election?
Besides pairing with organizations to get Americans registered to votes, musicians are finding other ways to spread the message, including releasing limited-edition music as My Morning Jacket did, hosting livestreams, releasing videos, and launching their own campaigns to get out the vote. And of course, they’re spreading the word via social media.
Taylor Swift has sent a message to her fans via her Instagram Stories, along with a list of resources she has rounded up. “It’s really coming up,” she said of the election. “And I’ve put together a ‘swipe up’ of resources. … We need everyone, and it is more important than I can even possibly say.”
Snoop Dogg launched his own voter registration drive with Rock the Vote, 1 Vote Closer and OneOpp called #VoteWithSnoop that runs through Election Day. “As I’m looking around at what is happening in the world right now, I know that we need to make an immediate change and we can’t sit back idle,” he said in a statement. “I’m gonna use my voice and Influence to let people know that the only option is to get out and vote.”
Reclusive singer Frank Ocean also broke his silence recently, issuing an urgent call for his fans to vote in an Instagram story posted on the same night as the first debate between Pres. Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. “Debates are on. It all feels fake,” Ocean wrote. “The problem’s that it’s not. Donald is president and might not leave the White House even if he loses the race so some say. Pls vote. Watching him dragged out will be way more entertaining that these debates.” If you’re not already registered to vote, Ocean is offering a chance to do so on his Blonded.co site.
