Brian Wilson is to be honored as the MusiCares 2005 Person of the Year.
The songwriter, composer, producer and arranger — who was chosen for his accomplishments as a musician and humanitarian — will receive the accolade at a dinner Feb. 11 at the Palladium in Hollywood, during Grammy Week.
Wilson — a founder of the Beach Boys in 1961 and prominent solo artist and collaborator — earlier this year completed the critically acclaimed “Smile,” the aborted follow-up to the Beach Boys’ seminal 1966 album “Pet Sounds.” His philanthropic efforts include support of the Carl Wilson Foundation for cancer research, Adopt-a-Minefield, and Neil young’s Bridge School concerts.
