What would Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” sound like on a Broadway stage? That’s what Charlie Puth and Jimmy Fallon set out to discover in a hilarious Tonight Show segment called the “Musical Genre Challenge.”
To kick off the game, in which the participant must sing a randomly generated song in the style of a completely different genre, the late night host gave the “Cha Cha Slide” a super smooth ’90s R&B twist. To follow up, Puth sang “Truth Hurts,” in the Broadway genre by playing the tune on the keyboard and articulating the lyrics.
In the second round, Fallon took on “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” as a techno song, complete with a perfectly executed drop. To finish it all off, the crooner nailed a Doobie Brothers impression while singing his own song, “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”
