Rapper Murs has announced September 30 as the release date for his upcoming album, “Murs For President,” via Warner Bros.
The Los Angeles MC released his last album, 2006’s “Murray’s Revenge,” via the independent, Record Collection, which was distributed through Warner Bros. Records. Now Murs has been upstreamed to Warner after “Murray’s Revenge” garnered critical acclaim. The LP has moved 46,000 copies to-date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
“Murs For President” is expected to capitalize on the politically charged atmosphere by addressing politics, social equality and economic empowerment.
The West Coast MC will also join Nas and A Tribe Called Quest on this summer’s Rock The Bells tour.
Murs has been a Los Angeles underground hip-hop fixture for over 10 years. Rhyming with groups like the Living Legends and creating two duet albums, “Murray’s Revenge and “Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition,” with producer 9th Wonder, Murs pioneered the quirky hip-hop style now touted by MC’s like BLU and U-N-I.
