Bilingual entertainment cable channel mun2 is rolling out three new shows for its Latino youth audience, and its parent network Telemundo announced new concert specials, as part of their upfront presentations in New York this week.
In addition to new programming, an announcement was expected in the coming weeks about increased distribution for mun2 in the channel’s home market, Los Angeles, “with the backing and support of a larger NBC-Universal distribution group,” Telemundo president Don Browne said in a conference call with reporters. He would not elaborate.
New on mun2 is “Holamun2: El Show,” a weekly half-hour televised version of the holamun2.com web site, with news, music reviews, user-generated video and exclusive content from music stars like Calle 13 and RBD.
“Beauty Es Cool” is a reality competition of aspiring beauticians, and “The mun2 Hook Up” allows viewers to shadow their professional role models for a day.
In addition to new telenovelas and sports programs, Spanish-language Telemundo will premiere its “Concierto de las Estrellas” series with the closing concert of Ricky Martin’s world tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Another concert special on the NBC-Universal-owned network will be the two-hour “Concierto Universal” featuring Universal Music artists Paulina Rubio, David Bisbal and Luis Fonsi. Reggaeton and regional Mexican concerts will round out the lineup.
Telemundo is also premiering a weekly late-night sketch comedy and music show, “Mas Vale Tarde,” with host Alex Cambert.
