Mumford & Sons deliver another energetic performance in the new clip for “Babel.” Only this time, there are more Mumfords than usual.
Though the title single forcefully kicks-open the door to their Grammy-winning No. 1 album, the new video settles for an intimate and stripped-down atmosphere.
Shot in black and white in an empty music hall, the camera pans around the room while the folk-rock quartet jams-out on multiple takes, sometimes playing other instruments or lounging around the space. Despite no audience, Marcus Mumford and Co. play with enough ferocity and stomping to tear down the metaphorical walls he sings about in the bridge of the track. The frontman even manages to multiply for the occasion.

The video comes at a time of extreme highs and lows for the band. Bassist Ted Dwayne faced serious health risks when he was hospitalized in June with a blood clot in his brain. Dwayne underwent emergency surgery and the band missed its headlining performance at Bonnaroo.
The bass player made a swift recovery and the group played a triumphant headlining set at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The performance took their 2012 smash release back to the top of the British albums charts this week.
