Despite Motley Crue’s invitation to a press event Monday in West Hollywood that teases “coming soon to an arena near you,” a tour by the band is not a done deal. Talk of the outing is premature, according to the band’s manager at Tenth Street Entertainment, whose logo tops the invite.
“Anyone showing up at the Whiskey on Monday will be with a bunch of other people holding a seance trying to will this thing to happen,” says Allen Kovac, manager for Motley Crue. Kovac says the band has received “generous” offers to tour in both the United States and Britain. “We’re holding buildings, sitting down and negotiating with everyone, but nothing is done,” Kovac tells Billboard.biz.
So what is done? “I know there’s a single, and I know there’s a video,” says Kovac. “And they’re getting great response, which will help get this [tour] done. If we do a press conference, it will be to announce this, which is what we should be doing as a manager. But I assure you there isn’t anything happening in front of the Whisky on Monday.”
Kovac adds, “This is Motley Crue we’re talking about. Everyone is expecting a concert, and a wrestling match may break out.”
The logo of national arena promoter AEG Live also appears on the invite, though Kovac claims that “in 30 years I’ve never gone with a national promoter.”
A Motley Crue hits package, “Red, White & Crue,” is due Feb. 1 on Hip-O/Motley/UTV. Island Records — whose logo also appears on the invitation — is working the first single.
Motley Crue is booked by Artists Group international.
Talk that Motley Crue would tour in 2005 with all four original members first cropped up this fall.
