MTV Networks Japan (MTVNJ) has launched a free ad-supported music video streaming service on its MTVJapan.com site.
Music videos from Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group are now available to view at no cost and without the need to register on the site, along with content from the MTV Networks International library. Rights holders are compensated under a separate agreement that MTV Networks has with the labels and collecting societies.
Madonna, Black Eyed Peas and Green Day are among the artists whose videos are available, while the MTV catalog provides such programs as “The Hills,” “Cribs” and the animation “Usavich.” Green Day’s video for new single “Know Your Enemy” (Reprise) premiered on the site on April 24, as part of MTV’s worldwide partnership with Warner for Green Day’s forthcoming album “21st Century Breakdown.”
“This new functionality is an integral part of our evolution towards seamless and rich cross-platform experience of the MTV brand in Japan,” said Paul Greenberg, VP/GM, digital media, North Asia at MTVNJ, in a statement.
MTVNJ operates the mobile and PC digital media services for all MTV Networks brands in Japan.
