Colombian superstar Shakira along with Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and Foo Fighters are the first round of talent confirmed to perform at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.
The VMALAs, now on their fourth year, will be held in Mexico, marking the event’s first venture outside of Miami. The awards will air Oct. 20 in over 24 Latin American countries. MTV and MTV2 will air the ceremony in the United States.
In related news, MTV channels worldwide will air an “MTV Live Shakira” special this month, featuring the first live performances of Shakira’s current album, “Fijacion Oral 1.” The special, featuring English and Spanish tracks, was recorded in Madrid in June and features the duet, “La Tortura,” with Alejandro Sanz. The show will premiere on MTV Spain on July 13, followed by the United States on July 14, MTV Hits on July 23 and MTV Latin America on the same day. The special will then air on MTV channels worldwide.
