Mumbai-based MTV India has recruited Coca Cola executive Amit Jain to the role as managing director, with effect from Jan. 1, 2006. At the same time, Jain has also been appointed executive VP of MTV Networks Asia.
Jain is currently regional VP, Coca Cola India, North India, based in New Delhi. During 11 years with the soft drinks giant, Jain is credited with having helped oversee the launch of its Coca Cola and Sprite products in that territory.
In his new job, Jain takes over from previous MD Alex Kuruvilla who left the company in June. Since then, Nigel Robbins, MD of MTV Australia, has temporarily supervised MTV India’s operations.
“India is a strategic priority for MTV Networks and we are excited to have Amit, with his tremendous track record in a highly competitive youth market, to take our business to the next level,” commented Bill Roedy, vice chairman, MTV Networks and president, MTV Networks International.
Jain will report to the as-yet unannounced president of MTV Networks Asia Pacific. The region’s former president Frank Brown exited in September.
