U.K. pop act Leona Lewis has achieved double platinum status with MTV Networks International for “Bleeding Love” (Syco/Sony BMG). Her cover of Snow Patrol’s “Run” has also earned the biggest first week sale for a digital-only track in the U.K.
“Bleeding Love” topped MTV Networks International’s list of Platinum and Gold Video Play Awards, with a total of 16,085 plays in the first six months of 2008. Platinum status is achieved with 8,000 plays, while 4,000 plays earns a gold award.
The awards were created in 2007, based on data from 53 MTV music channels from four continents, excluding U.S. channels.
Lewis was followed by Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” (RP/Def Jam) with 15,953 plays. “Four Minutes” (Warner Bros.) by Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake was in third place with 15,679 plays.
MTVNI says the total amount of plays for the 37 gold and platinum videos was 336,478.
Leona Lewis is currently No. 1 in the U.K. singles chart with “Run”(Syco/Sony BMG). It achieved week one sales of 131,593 according to the Official Charts Co, the most ever for a download-only track. However, it did not quite beat the first week download sale of her December 2006 debut single “A Moment Like This,” which was also available as a physical release.
